Zentrum für Psychiatrie Reichenau
New geriatric psychiatry clinic
The three-storey new building marks the eastern perimeter of the elongated green central square of the campus. Following the gentle south-facing slope of the site, the building is designed as a terraced house on a slope. It opens up generously to the sun and Lake Constance to the south. The fairly large, functionally horizontally oriented room layout is divided into individual building sections, which are modelled on the scale of the existing buildings of the Reichenau Centre for Psychiatry.
The new building, which is staggered across usable terraces, appears to be essentially two-storey and is thus also oriented towards the historical buildings of the site in terms of height. It is divided into three sections, each of which encloses an inner courtyard.
The positioning of the new building at the junction of a former historic path leading to the chapel means that the building blends naturally into the historic fabric of the complex. It marks the entrance to the campus. The open building with its contemporary design clearly signals the process of further development and renewal of the ZfP Reichenau to the public.
The new building was specifically designed to meet the needs of elderly people with mental illness. The single and double rooms are equipped with disabled-friendly bathrooms. All wards have direct access to sheltered gardens.
