Deutsches Generalkonsulat Jekaterinburg
German Consulate General in Yekaterinburg, Russia, new consulate building
The new German Consulate General in Yekaterinburg presents itself as an open, inviting building. The public areas of the building, which house the service facilities for citizens, the visa office and legal advice services, are largely glazed and open onto Bolshakov Street. The elegant grey-green brickwork lends the building an appropriate character. The building thus represents the Federal Republic of Germany as an open, hospitable country.
Our design addresses this special location between city and countryside, between public street space and park, in a wide variety. Sensitively integrated into the park, the essentially two-storey building presents itself with confidence. The small-scale high point on the west side is clearly visible from both Bolshakov Street and the main road running perpendicular to it. As you get a little closer, you realise the special public significance of this representative building. The largely glazed façade of the visa office opens up almost like a shop window onto the street and the footpath running across into the park, signalling that the visa office and legal advice service here is available to all citizens of the region.
The L-shaped office building is centrally located on the property and divides it into highly functional areas. All security-related sections of the consulate are located within the ‘core area’ of the property, 15 metres from the property line. Only the single-storey visa office is located outside this security area.
