Deutsche Botschaft Kuala Lumpur
German Embassy Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, new embassy building
The new German Embassy presents itself as an open and inviting building. The public areas of the space allocation plan, with service facilities for citizens, the visa office and the legal and consular offices, open up to the street with generous glazing. The three-storey chancellery meets the requirements for representation and offers optimal working conditions for ambassador and staff.
The building appears to float slightly above the ground. This reference to pole buildings and climate-friendly Malaysian construction is reinforced by a pergola that, like a footbridge, divides the open spaces into usable areas. This allows visitors and staff to enter the building protected from the sun and rain. The multi-layered structure of the façade with a second skin of vertically arranged aluminium profiles is very similar to the traditional construction method used in Malaysian wooden buildings. The façade provides effective and ecologically sustainable protection against the tropical sun and humidity.
