Sachsenwald-Grundschule

Berlin Primary School extended!

Even in its current form, the Sachsenwald Primary School is a collage of Hans Müller's original structure, evident in the south-western corner gable, and the curved, horizontally aligned building from the 1950s. The building complex is listed as a historic monument by the City of Berlin.

With the new building, the school is being further expanded and adapted to the current demands of an all-day school. This includes a canteen with kitchen, three group rooms and an additional classroom. The new building opens up generously to the school garden. In summer, the schoolchildren can eat lunch on the terrace, enjoy biology lessons in the school garden, or simply play in the meadow.

The three-storey extension creates a counterbalance to the three-storey south wing of the dynamically curved school building. As a glass structure, it sets an independent, contemporary accent in contrast to the existing components, made of plaster and red brick. At the intersection of Sachsenwaldstraße and Lauenburger Straße, it opens up to the public space in the streets.
