Landesuntersuchungsanstalt Sachsen
New construction for the Saxony State Research Institute for Health and Veterinary Affairs (LUA) in Bischofswerda, near Dresden
The new building for the Saxony State Laboratory for Health and Veterinary Affairs (LUA) is an open and sustainable administration and laboratory building. It incorporates the immediately adjacent landscape into the building structure and blends into the gentle southern slope of the Butterberg hill in Bischofswerda with its height and its delicate wooden façade. Open interiors flooded with daylight and offering sweeping views of the picturesque landscape provide modern workspaces in a sustainable wood-concrete hybrid building.
The new LUA building marks the start of the development of the new commercial area on Bautzener Straße in the north of Bischofswerda. The ring road (Plan-straße A and B), which extends Geislingerstraße, provides access to the research building from different directions. Its compact form leaves plenty of room for future expansion inside that ring.
The new building of the State Investigation Agency is a hillside house. Part of the building, in particular the service areas without direct daylight, such as the central warehouse, central changing rooms and technical facilities, are built directly into the hillside on level -1.
The façade will be made of rod-shaped, back-ventilated wooden lamellas of pre-weathered silver fir, framed by approximately 200 mm deep posts and beams of the same material.
