Laborgebäude FU Berlin

Renovation of laboratory building House 8

Modern research is breathing new life into the old building shell of the listed former stable building of the historic manor, now the Domäne Dahlem open-air museum.
The building in its current form dates from the 1960s and is built on the foundations of its predecessor, a former stable building on the Domäne Dahlem estate. Access to the building has been reorganised with two independent staircases and a lift suitable for disabled people. A small front square at the main entrance, with its planting and a long bench outside the enclosed area, creates a special quality of stay.
The ground floor is divided into a publicly accessible area facing the street and a rear laboratory area, partly with S 2 requirements. The secretariat and writing room at the entrance provide a means of controlling access. The main laboratory for molecular and microbiology, designed as an open-plan space, is optimally complemented by adjoining service rooms, while adjacent rooms house laboratories for
immunology and isotope technology.
The project was funded by the Economic Stability Package II.
