Klinik für Pferde FU Berlin

Renovation of equine clinic with lecture hall

The equine clinic is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Free University of Berlin and is located next to the small animal clinic on the grounds of the former Düppel manor house on the south-western outskirts of Berlin, adjacent to a landscape conservation area.

The horse clinic complex consists of three buildings: the clinic building with a polygonal lecture hall attached to the side, two associated stable buildings, and a longeing arena. A tartan-paved walkway has been added between the clinic building and the adjacent stable.

The architects adapted the clinic and teaching buildings to current medical requirements. The structural layout remains unchanged, while the functional layout makes clever use of the different floor heights within the ground floor and upper floor. In the newly designed lecture hall, equine disorders are presented using live animals. The two stable buildings are used for patient admission, pre- and post-operative surgical care and internal medicine requirements.
