Gerontopsychiatrie Königslutter

The new three-storey geriatric psychiatry building is being constructed on the grounds of the gardener's workshop, directly adjacent to the music therapy pavilion and the central car park. The building marks the entrance to the campus of the AWO Psychiatric Centre in Königslutter and is visible from afar. The inviting entrance to the new building, which is accessible from the car park and the adjacent access road, welcomes patients, staff and visitors, helping them to overcome any initial fears. The ambulance access road is directly connected to the car park and is also located on the east side of the new building. Deliveries are made via a separate entrance on the north side.

The ground floor houses the medical service, therapy rooms and the psychiatric outpatient clinic (PIA). In addition, service functions such as changing rooms and technical rooms are located in the windowless areas facing the slope. On the first and second floors, two ward units are located next to each other. The required fifth ward unit is located on the third floor of the building on the hillside. The special location of the new building on the hillside allows the various ward units to have their own protected gardens. The garden on the hillside, or west side, can also be used as a central therapy garden for all wards in the geriatric psychiatry department. It is possible to connect building B directly to the new geriatric psychiatry department.

However, the layout of the new building for geriatric psychiatry also offers a unique opportunity to fundamentally reorganise the Königslutter Psychiatric Centre in the future. Once the new building has been occupied, the outdated Building B can be demolished. At this point, a second construction phase could see the addition of another building with outpatient and inpatient care facilities. The shared entrance area for all new acute psychiatric facilities will then be located between the new buildings. The gerontopsychiatry building could then house the central reception area for all acute wards. A north-south corridor on the ground floor could connect all wards.
