Campus Salzufer TU Berlin
Salzufer Campus of the Technical University of Berlin in Berlin-Charlottenburg
A new 6 1/2-storey building in the west connects to the 7-storey Lanolin Factory building as the first construction phase of the former Severins-grounds and complements it to form a differentiated building block into which the historic factory buildings can be well integrated. The new research building can accommodate the entire spatial programme with a differentiated range of spaces, consisting of workshops, offices and laboratories. Access is via both Salzufer and the Severins-grounds, which is open to delivery traffic and emergency vehicles. The fire wall of the heritage-listed old building at Salzufer 20 remains unchanged. The exciting space between the small-scale old building and the significantly taller new building on Salzufer marks the start of the thoroughfare through the former Severins-grounds. A six-storey building block connects to the northern wing of the existing Axa Insurance building.
The existing building from the 1990s will be integrated into a differentiated block structure. Together with the building block in the north-west, which forms a perimeter development on the boundary of the site, the building blocks enclose a shared campus square in the centre of the Severins-grounds. The central square offers a high quality of life for students, teachers and residents and provides a prestigious address for the various research institutes on the new TU campus. Sufficient parking spaces for bicycles and disabled parking spaces are provided on the site. In addition, the new campus is free of cars.
