The main entrance to the new education centre in the former textile factory is located on the south side of the historic building. This is where pedestrians coming from the old town meet students, teachers and visitors arriving via Walkstraße in the east. The striking south façade of the former production building marks the entrance to the new education centre, visible from afar. Together with the future building blocks of the start-up centre, adult education centre and triple sports hall, a dynamic location for the sustainable development of the town of Wittstock is being created, taking into account the valuable building fabric.

In the area of the textile factory with its different-sized components – production building, boiler house, shed roof halls, extension buildings, director's villa and the industrial area adjacent to it east of Walkstraße – the clearly structured and well-proportioned south façade of the production building forms a landmark visible from afar. The green forecourt in front of the building, at the centre of the site, connects the access road from Walkstraße for buses and private vehicles with a footpath on the town side, which leads from the historic opening in the town wall on “Am Brink street” via a new footbridge over the Dosse river to the education centre. In the future, the forecourt will also provide access to the triple sports hall for school and club sports.

The concept of internal development interprets and connects existing spatial relationships in order to generate meaningful and flexible functional processes for school operations: the extension on the south-east corner of the production building is transformed into a two-storey, weather-protected pergola by removing the false ceiling. The existing floor-to-ceiling openings lead into the building without having to alter the existing windows on the south façade. The partially two-storey foyer leads to the shed roofed halls in a sequence of diagonally arranged room units. While the production building is dedicated to classrooms, the boiler house houses the main common rooms. The sheds house specialist rooms and all-day functions. If necessary, the auditorium, foyer and canteen can be interconnected to create a spacious area for special school events, with the rear wall of the production building providing space for a stage.
